Three letters too many. I’m not quite that financially reckless, yet.

drove the red rex in the photo of my last article. fun car. rev-hang between 1st and 2nd is real though.

Oh, okay. Not quite a vape enthusiast yet, though.

A bit too close to my current mildly lowered Golf, unfortunately. Also, not enough driven wheels.

Subie.

All except the Honda are a bit over what I wanted to spend. Just a WRX for me.

I noticed the rev hang, not just in the WRX either, the Forester does it too. It’s no worse than the Golf though, it hangs a bit and has a massive gap between the gear ratios of 1st and 2nd. Have to hold the clutch in for a second and wait for the revs to drop, a quick shift will make the car buck a bit. Works ok when driven hard though, chirps the tires because it keeps the turbo spooled.
Will see if the aftermarket has anything to address it.

Fine, just the hats then.

Nah, I can’t be seen in an Accord coupe.

Should’ve gotten the WRXXON.

You get rev hang in yours?
In my Jetta, it’s just general slowness. But i can chirp the tires first to second, which is nice I guess.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 21:06 |

I’m gonna need one of those to supply me regularly.
Good idea for a plate though. Unfortunately, I don’t think WRXON VALDEZ will fit.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 21:07 |

A bit yeah, in general are just slow to drop though, like yours. Damn heavy flywheel.
OTOH, Tire chirps are fun. :)

Too much moolah.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 21:11 |

Sometimes I get the impression that the revs are going up, but the car isn’t actually moving haha.
I’ve only chirped the tires once, it was quite fun now that I think of it.
But for the time being, it’s in the shop. And has been for the last three days lol.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 21:12 |

That would be an excellent plate.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 21:17 |

Oh dang, what’s going on with it? I haven’t had any downtime with mine yet, nearing on 30k miles.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 21:22 |
|
I’m at 6,000 miles and it’s been in the shop twice already.
The engine wasn’t running quite right and the it bucks a bit whenever I let off the gas.
I’m honestly going to be selling it pretty soon after I get it back.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 21:28 |

Damn dude.

The brim had better be so flat you can shoot pool on it, young man.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 22:00 |

We have a VW enthusiast club locally where all the Mk6/Mk7 GTI kids are basically flat-brimmed vapers. So there’s that too.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 22:07 |

Haha, hell no.
When I called the dealer the guy laughed when I asked to make sure they had a stick and said they hadn’t sold any CVT WRXs. This pleased me very much.

Not all WRX and STi owners are vape and hat enthusiasts, beat the cycle and rise above. Some of us are just normal humans who enjoy turbocharged sedans.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 22:17 |
|
Neither am I and nor will I be, don’t worry. I’m just here for the awd/manual/turbo goodness. :D
Also, because I’m a masochist and apparently a 40mpg hatchback that does pretty much everything well is too sensible.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 22:18 |
|
Not that there’s anything wrong with that
![]() 11/02/2016 at 22:21 |

Thank you! As a former WRX, current STi owner, sometimes you just like the car and not necessarily the culture. I frigging love my car and I wish you the best on yours. Hell, I drove mine from CA to CT and it just made me love it more.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 22:24 |

Heh, I’m familiar. My current car is a VW and while I lowered it a bit (for performance and aesthetics), the Stancenation crowd is pretty strong in the VW scene and I don’t care much for it at all.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 22:47 |
|
I’ve kept my STi stock-ish. I put on the mud flaps and moved the licence plate to the tow hook and put on an exhaust, but that’s it. No crazy cobb tunes or intakes or anything like that. If you’re planning on doing a catback , I really like my Varex X-force, it’s remotely adjustable so I can go from mildly aggressive gurmble to slightly quieter than stock.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 22:54 |
|
Haha nice
![]() 11/02/2016 at 22:59 |

I’m planning on keeping mine mostly stock as well. Mud-flaps are a given, so is a different set of wheels as the stockers will get winter tires and a lip spoiler for the trunk because I went for a base model (I need the headroom that the sunroof takes up) and it doesn’t have one. Beyond that, an exhaust is a maybe, so is a rear sway bar, depending on how I like the handling balance if/when I autocross the car, next year probably. I probably won’t tune it either, I resisted it on my Golf (also turbocharged and very tuner friendly) and I like my warranty intact.

Why do you think I live so close to Zoidberg?
![]() 11/02/2016 at 23:12 |
|
How do I know THAT’S not made up?
![]() 11/02/2016 at 23:30 |
|
That’s extremely reasonable. I’m gonna keep my summer tires on the stock wheels and my winter tires on a set of winter wheels. It will understeer, but in my 2013 WRX a set of Pilot Super Sports helped out with that a bit.
![]() 11/02/2016 at 23:46 |
|
The stock wheels are getting relegated to winter duty because I’m not really a fan of their design. I’d like RPF1s for summer but I’m not sure what I’ll do yet.
Do you run a narrower wheel/tire for winter?
That’s the only I have running the stock wheels in winter, with a 17x8 I’d probably need a 225 width tire. I currently run a 195 on my Golf in winter and 225s the rest of the year, haha.

I love my stock wheels, and I’m gonna go for basically the same size on the winter set 18x8 http://www.methodracewheels.com/collections/all/products/501-titanium-rally-wheel

I just wanted to say thanks for the Greg Moore reposts. I worked really hard on those, it took me two years to write because I had a few major life events on the way. But yeah, thanks.
